Primary purpose
To create individual health behaviour change through a team-based competition.
To offer people an opportunity to reduce their daily sedentary behaviour through regular (customisable) prompts which offer tangible health and wellbeing benefits.
Target audience (people it caters for)
Health aware people looking to get healthier.
Anyone in a variety of organisation types including the most sedentary employees, children, patients or senior citizens.
Program duration
Annually run 16 weeks (or less) program following which the sedentary behaviour problem returns almost instantly.
Available and accessible all year round in either an active (competition running) mode or passive (still accessible but less competition intensive) mode.
Participation time
Individual decides when to do an activity with typically no prompt or regular reminder, nor allowance during work / class time.
Focus on keeping people active regularly (not just before / after work or school). Fully customisable schedules allow regular daily movement for greatest benefit.
Program type / tasks
Most corporate health and wellbeing programs incorporate cardiovascular exercise (step counts) challenges, while others promote work breaks to reduce ergonomic health issues and eye strain, etc.
Incorporates a well-rounded regime of health benefiting tasks, including cardiovascular strengthening tasks (walking), resistance-based exercise strength and conditioning (muscular tone), stretching for flexibility and enhancing bodily range of motion.
Equipment required
Pedometer (counts steps), gym membership, bike/pool access.
